The Wisconsin Badgers got a major win on the recruiting trail this summer when four-star running back Amari Latimer committed to the program. Latimer, a native of Georgia, initially fielded interest from
several top schools like Georgia, Texas, and others, but as rooms filled up, the Badgers emerged as a top contender.
Then, after multiple visits in the summer, Latimer made it official, committing to Wisconsin, where his brother Geimere currently plays.
However, as we know in today’s recruiting world, nothing is officially done until National Signing Day. And Latimer has been looking around at schools this Fall.
One of those has been the Ohio State Buckeyes, where Latimer took a surprise visit last weekend without telling the Wisconsin staff. Now, it seemed the running back wanted to keep it under wraps, but word evidently got out, leading Latimer’s father to tell BadgerConnect’s Jesse Temple that he was still fully committed to Wisconsin.
Ultimately, the four-star wants to visit schools and still go through the recruiting process, but understands that the Badgers are his top choice. However, simply visiting other schools shows that a recruit could still very well flip at any point.
On Friday, Latimer was seen wearing Ohio State sleeves just days after his visit, sparking some outrage from Badger fans. That prompted Latimer to write an interesting response on social media, apologizing for his actions:
Latimer is now taking a visit to Georgia Tech this weekend, which was a top contender for the running back in the summer.
We’ll see how this saga turns out, but Wisconsin is currently in limbo with some top recruits, it appears.
