Trevoh Chalobah is going to the World Cup!
Our reliable defender has gotten the call from Thomas Tuchel, just ahead of the emergency squad change deadline (24 hours before a team’s first game), after former Chelsea prospect Tino Livramento suffered a calf injury in training over the weekend. Chalobah’s now on his way to England’s training base in Kansas City — though he’s not expected to be involved in England’s first game, which is on Wednesday in Dallas, against Croatia.
While it’s nice to now have
two Chelsea players in the squad, it’s a bit of a surprising decision, considering that Chalobah was last called up in November of last year, and he’s not exactly a full back like Livrameno. And Trent Alexander-Arnold is right there. But Tuchel has shown strong convictions in putting together his team, and this decision probably aligns with whatever vibe he’s going for.
Let’s hope it works out for him (and them)!
