The Penn State men’s hockey team will start the 2025-26 season ranked where it ended last season, inside the Top 5:
Penn State received three of the 50 first place votes. The team is making its first appearance in the preseason poll since the 2019-20 season, where the Nittany Lions were No. 13.
Defending national champion Western Michigan was
ranked No. 1 overall, followed by national runner up Boston University. Alongside Penn State, Michigan State (No. 3), Minnesota (No. 8), Michigan (No. 12), Ohio State (No. 16), and Wisconsin (No. 20) represent the Big Ten in the preseason poll. Notre Dame was the only Big Ten team to not appear in this week’s poll, though the Fighting Irish received 12 votes.
Penn State drops the puck on the 2025-26 season next Friday at 9pm against No. 14 Arizona State. TV information is still TBD at this time.
