Coming into this week, there were already a pair of big pro wrestling events scheduled for Sun., June 28. But those shows weren’t going head-to-head, as TNA Slammiversary has a 3 p.m. Eastern start time and should be done before AEW, New Japan, CMLL & Stardom’s Forbidden Door heads to PPV at 8 p.m.
That changed today (June 2), however. NXT head honcho Shawn Michaels took a break from making TikToks for the yutes to announce that Great American Bash will also take place on June 28. And that show will start
at the same time as Forbidden Door.
What’s more, since this is the first NXT premium live event airing on the brand’s weekly television home The CW, Great American Bash will be on free TV in the United States while Forbidden Door costs $40-$50.
It’ll be interesting to see if /how NXT and AEW use their partners in promoting the Sunday night head-to-head. Tony Khan will likely insist on Mistico being on the Forbidden Door card if possible (if New Japan had a big name star to send, they probably wouldn’t have been sold out of nowhere last week, but I still expect a Tanahashi appearance). Will WWE and TNA do any co-promotion, or run an angle that spans both Slammiversary and Great American Bash?
