Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has experienced the highest of highs (2020) and the lowest of lows (2021) vs. Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
None of that will matter, though, when Neuer
takes the pitch on Tuesday.
“The focus is clearly on the game. In the summer, we showed a good performance, unfortunately didn’t reward ourselves. We have made steps forward, have developed and started very well,” Neuer said (as captured by Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau). “We have developed further since the Club World Cup and taken steps forward. We have no fear. We are here to win, even if we know that the opponent is very strong. It’s not a do-or-die match, but a lot of prestige is at stake.”
As for how he feels, Neuer is eager to get it on.
“I am relatively relaxed, I look forward to such a duel. You always want to measure yourself against the best. The mood in the team is good, we are highly motivated. It’s not a knockout game, but it’s about prestige, also because we were eliminated by them in the Club World Cup,” said Neuer (as captured by FCBayern.com). “We will see it tomorrow; it also depends on small things, on the form of the day. What’s important is that we stay true to ourselves, try to implement our game.
“Both teams like to have the ball; there will certainly also be opportunities for counterattacks. For that, one needs a solid defensive structure and to make use of the situations ourselves when we can hurt PSG,”
Neuer figures to be challenged by PSG’s high octane attack. but the veteran will surely be up to the challenge.
