Wow wow wow wow wow.
The Seattle Seahawks set, broke, tied, invented, etc. all kinds of NFL records in an unbelievable 38-37 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
We’ll start with the one that was near unavoidable – they talked about this on the broadcast for almost the entire fourth quarter. But that was the first 4th-quarter Seattle comeback of this magnitude.
If at first you don’t succeed, 173rd time’s the charm!
But there were many more, and some much more interesting, records.
Teams with as many successful-looking stats as the Rams had essentially never lost a game like that. Matt Stafford put up yet another MVP performance, for 457 yards and three touchdowns. The team combined for 581 yards of offense, along with no turnovers and a slew of other great things.
They’re the first such team to lose.
We’ve already covered as well – with the new rules, the Seahawks just had the first ever walk-off two-point conversion win.
Rashid Shaheed and Jaxon Smith-Njigba also set some Seattle franchise marks. Total receptions for JSN, and a cool kick return mark for Shaheed who’s become the most dynamic returner in the back half of the season.
UNCONFIRMED: first ever backwards pass score (offensive)?
I feel confident saying we just witnessed the first ever backwards pass recovered in the end zone for an offensive two-point conversion. I think it’s also the first time the offense has ever scored on an unintended backwards pass deflection.
There are technically quite a few backwards pass touchdowns in the NFL already, but every instance I’ve found was a lateral. This coming straight from Sam Darnold’s hand, picked up in the end zone for a score, let alone a two-pointer.
If you find one, drop it in the comments!
And while we’re at it, that was the most prolific 2-point conversion game by a team ever as well.
Just absolute madness on a cold Thursday night. Seahawks now control their destiny for the remainder of the season.
Go Hawks!
