Julian Alvarez’s market value has dropped by 10 million euros following a tough start to the season with Atletico after a proposed move to Barcelona failed to materialize.
Barca wanted to add the Argentina international to their ranks but saw a transfer blocked by Atletico. The Catalans reportedly made an offer of €100 million, but Atletico wanted far more for their striker.
Alvarez missed training and game time at the start of the season due to illness, as the transfer saga continued, but has since
returned to action and has made four appearances for Diego Simeone’s side.
Yet the events over the summer have seen his market value take a hit. According to Transfermarkt, Alvarez’s value has dropped from €120m to €110m in the latest update.
Transfermarkt’s LaLiga market value coordinator Tobias Blaseio has shared his thoughts on the drop in value.
“Many people expected the Argentine to make a move this summer,” he said.
“Instead, an unprecedented transfer farce ensued. In the end, Alvarez lost the most and will need some time to regain his standing in Madrid – if that’s even possible.
“On the field, it had an entirely negative impact; in the league, the striker has managed only 83 minutes of playing time. This summer certainly didn’t do his reputation as a player any favours.”
There was speculation that Barca could go back for Alvarez in the winter or next summer. However, the club have since brought in Gabriel Jesus and Deco has claimed Alvarez “is in the past.”
