According to Sky Germany (via Goal
), RB Leipzig’s management has begun internal discussions about Martin Demichelis’s future following an inconsistent start to the campaign. The former Bayern Munich defender arrived last summer with the task of building on Ole Werner’s third-place finish, but the results have not been convincing enough so far.Leipzig have shown what they are capable of with dominant victories over Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hamburger SV, and Eintracht Frankfurt yet defeats to Werder
Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen, and Como have raised serious questions. Sitting ninth in the Bundesliga, Die Roten Bullen are falling short of expectations.
The irony is difficult to ignore. Werner was dismissed despite securing Champions League qualification because Red Bull wanted more intensity, attacking football, and a stronger identity. Demichelis was brought in to deliver that vision, but Leipzig are still searching for consistency.
Nagelsmann, who previously led Leipzig to the Champions League semifinals, is reportedly being considered by parts of the management. The former Germany head coach has been available since leaving the national team last summer, making him an intriguing option if the club decides to change direction again.
However, Roger Schmidt, who recently succeeded Jürgen Klopp in Red Bull’s football leadership, wants more time to assess Demichelis before making a recommendation. With Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich looming in the Bundesliga, alongside Champions League tests against PSV and Real Madrid, October could determine whether Demichelis gets the time he needs or becomes the latest casualty of Leipzig’s ambitious project.
