Young players could end up looking at the management of Paul Wanner’s career as a cautionary tale.
The former Bayern Munich attacking midfielder is scuffling to get on the field with PSV Eindhoven and is still
bothered by the injury he sustained, while still at Bayern Munich during the summer.
“He’s settled in well, but everyone forgets that he arrived here directly after his serious ankle injury,” said Bosz (as captured by Sport Bild). “He hadn’t trained at Bayern for three weeks. That takes time, just as he needs to get to know his teammates.”
Bosz also went on to note that Wanner arrive in the Netherlands behind the eight-ball.
“He basically had to start over with us. After the European Championship, he had three weeks of vacation. Then he injured himself in training with Bayern Munich during the first two weeks. He couldn’t train for three weeks and then moved to Eindhoven. And the injury is still there. He’s behind in training, but his foot was still causing problems,” said Bosz.
It was not all that long ago that Germany and Austria were battling for position in the Wanner sweepstakes for international play. Now, that fervor has subsided and the kid is left trying to figure out how to get his career back on track.
Since joining PSV Eindhoven, Wanner has appeared in three of five games where he dressed, but has only compiled 27 minutes. Wanner has not registered a goal or an assist.
Bayern Munich will get some down time…not much, but some.
The Bavarians are not back in action until Friday against Werder Bremen, so a day or two of rest will not be such a bad thing for a squad coming off of an arduous week.
