As successful as he’s been in Cincinnati, Joe Burrow has yet to reach his full potential.
Part of that is due to injuries. Part of that is due to terrible offensive lines. And part of that is due to poor defensive play the last couple of years.
Now that all three of those issues seem to be resolved, we’re seeing some of the smartest football analysts predicting that Joe Burrow will win MVP for the first time in his career.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes told guest Ben Solak on her podcast that she chose Burrow to win
MVP over Justin Herbert in part because the growth of the latter this year could largely be attributed to new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
“My feeling about Burrow was this—one, he’s never won it,” Kimes began. She then talked about how highly regarded Burrow is by other analysts. “I just feel that, everything is in place. There’s no contract drama with the wide receivers.”
Kimes thinks Burrow has a real chance because this year he has a “sneaky decent” offensive line and the 32nd-ranked schedule, according to the FTN Fantasy Almanac.
Solak agreed, saying the MVP is a “narrative-driven award” and Burrow has never won it. He also said that the Bengals’ improvement this year will be attributed to the QB who has “many, many years toiling away at the helm,” and not Al Golden, Scott Peters, Dylan Fairchild, or other less prominent faces.
