So far this international break, Liverpool have seen midfielder Wataru Endo withdraw from Japan duty as he seeks to focus on recovering from a minor knock, while forward Federico Chiesa was left out of
the Italy squad after a conversation with manager Gennaro Gattuso as he doesn’t feel he’s 100% fit.
It’s not all bad news for the Reds on the minor knocks front, though, as Andy Robertson joined up with the Scottish national team and has been training with them today ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Belarus. Robertson ended Saturday’s match with Chelsea with concerns following a hard late tackle by the Blues’ Moises Caicedo.
Less positively, despite joining the French squad this week, Ibrahima Konaté has been held out of training by manager Didier Deschamps. France take on Azerbaijan and Iceland over the October international break, and Konaté’s presence despite clearly being less than fully fit will probably raise some eyebrows.
Following a likely season-ending injury for Giovanni Leoni last month, Liverpool are down to just Virgil van Dijk, Konaté, and Joe Gomez as established centre half options—and neither Konaté nor Gomez is especially known for having a stellar injury record. Hopefully, then, he makes it through the next week without picking up further damage.
