Villanova continues to be active to begin the week in the transfer portal.
According to multiple reports, the Wildcats will host Arkansas transfer point guard DJ Wagner on Tuesday.
Wagner, a former five-star recruit, was ranked as the No. 4 player in the nation by ESPN out of high school. He was part of a recruiting class that included new Wildcat Kwame Evans Jr., who was another five-star and ranked No. 14 out of Montverde Academy.
The McDonald’s All-American committed to Kentucky and spent one year
there before following John Calipari to Arkansas, where he spent the last two seasons.
Wagner has played in 100 career games, making 83 starts. At Kentucky, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 assists as a true freshman. Wagner has improved as a shooter over the course of his career. He made all 36 starts as a sophomore for a team that made a run to the Sweet 16. He scored 11.2 points and added 3.6 assists per game.
Last season, Wagner took a step forward shooting a career0best 34.6% from three-point range. He scored 7.4 points off the bench. Wagner is a career 77.5% free throw shooter, which is an area where Villanova needs to improve.
The Wildcats lost both Acaden Lewis and Bryce Lindsay in the transfer portal this offseason. The addition of Wagner would go a long way in replenishing the backcourt for 2026-27.
