Roster moves
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
- Recalled from Triple-A Reno: RHP Bryce Jarvis
- Optioned to Reno following last night’s game: RHP Andrew Hoffmann
It was good to see the D-backs able to hold on to victory last night, because one-run wins have not been easy for the team to come by. Their record overall in such things is a paltry 15-24, There have been worse seasons, and quite recently at that. For example, the 2022 team went 17-29 in one-run contests, for a lower win percentage. That came on the heels of the D-backs’ all-time worst performance. In 2021,
as they skidded towards almost the worst season in franchise history, Arizona won only ten such games all year, while losing thirty-one. The resulting .244 win percentage is eighty-two points below the next worst season – which, you won’t be surprised to learn, was 2004’s record of 15-31.
So, bad teams tend to be bad in one-run games too. That’s not really much of a surprise. But I thought it might be interesting to see which season had the biggest discrepancy between one-run W% and overall W% for Arizona. This year’s gap is 108 points, with an overall W% of .476 and a 1-run W% of .368. That’s the biggest positive gap since 2018. The all-time mark is 143 points in 2012. The biggest gap the other way was 138 points in 2016, when Arizona were 22-17 in one-run games, by 47-76 in contests decided by two or more runs. Below is the full list, with the numbers for each season in one-run contests and overall.
