Germany takes on Australia today in the first of two women’s international friendly contests in the next week.
This will be a slate of games to test head coach Christian Wück’s change-up as numerous absences have chipped away at his squad selection options. Among those is captain and Bayern Munich stalwart Giulia Gwinn, who has suffered an injury ligament injury.
Also absent: Larissa Mühlhaus, Bibiane Schulze Solano, Selina Cerci to join a list that already included Rebecca Knaak, Kathrin Hendrich,
and Vivien Endemann. Keeper Ann-Katrin Berger has been given a rest.
The additions to the squad following the absences: Luzie Zähringer, Sarai Linder, Nicole Anyomi. Endemann was part of the original 24-player squad announcement; with five withdrawals and three additions that means it is down to 22 for the actual games.
Per the DFB’s news release, Wück has called the slate — which includes a matchup against Japan on the 13th — “exactly the games we need to keep developing as a team and take the next steps forward.”
Prediction: Germany sails through 2-0.
