The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Ashton Jeanty with the sixth pick in the draft, hoping he would become a top-five back. With the struggles on the offensive line, it didn’t go down how the Raiders expected, with Jeanty not reaching 1000 yards rushing on the season.
However, he did have 1321 yards from scrimmage, which was a rookie record for the franchise. His ability as a receiver was evident in improved run blocking. There could be a player who can contribute on all three downs.
After the firing of
Pete Carroll, John Spytek gave his thoughts on the former Boise State running back’s rookie season. He defended him against the naysayers who questioned the draft pick.
“His success — I know there’s been a lot of narratives out there that he didn’t have the season that maybe he deserved, or you would expect from the sixth overall pick. Well, that’s fine, but it’s not just Ashton. There’s 10 other people that are out there with him, and it’s our job to put a great group of guys around him to help him realize his potential.”
It is true that Jeanty needs help to become the rusher everyone expected when he was drafted in 2025. It will be up to Spytek to beef up the offensive line to allow him to reach his full potential as a top ten pick in the draft. The trenches will be at the forefront of free agency and the draft, with hopes of finding upgrades at the position.
