Rookie midfielder Sarah Schupansky has signed a contract extension with Gotham FC through 2027, the club announced on Monday. Schupansky has had a standout season with Gotham, regularly starting matches as one of the club’s most consistent and effective players. She has five assists and one goal so far this season.
Schupansky’s contract previously ran through 2026 with a club option for 2027.
Schupansky previously played for the University of Pittsburgh, where she led the entire NCAA in assists with
15 assists. She currently leads Gotham in assists with five assists, tied for most assists in the NWSL. This is also the record for most assists by a rookie at Gotham.
“I am beyond excited and truly honored to be extending my contract with Gotham,” said Schupansky. “My time here has been nothing short of incredible, and it already feels like I’ve found a true home thanks to the amazing people I work with every day — from ownership and management to staff and teammates.”
“I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received since day one, and I can’t thank everyone enough for welcoming me into this club and community. I’m excited to keep building on what we’ve started and will continue to give everything I have to make this staff, this team, and this city proud. Let’s go Gotham!”
“Sarah has had a wonderful start to her young professional career, making numerous contributions to the club already,” said Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC. “We are incredibly excited to have Sarah here for the long term, and we cannot wait to see her grow even further.”
Schupansky also earned her first Youth National Team call-up while at Gotham. She was called up to the US U-23 Women’s National Team camp in May, where she appeared in friendlies against Germany.
Gotham recently signed Jaedyn Shaw, who also often plays the attacking midfield role that Schupansky occupied at Gotham for the first half of the season. Rose Lavelle, another star attacking midfielder who is sure to start games when healthy, has also returned to health over the second half of the season.
With all three players signed through at least the next season, coach Juan Carlos Amorós will have to figure out how to ensure all three have playing time.
