According to a report from Daily Mail chief football journalist Craig Hope, Newcastle United is closing in on a deal for VfB Stuttgart attacker Nick Woltemade.
Woltemade, of course, has been on Bayern Munich’s radar all summer. The Daily Mail piece is behind a paywall, but @iMiaSanMia has captured the nuts-and-bolts of the report in a very concise way:
Sources in Germany have told @MailSport that Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Nick Woltemade.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano backed up
the report:
🚨💣 BREAKING: Newcastle are closing in on Nick Woltemade deal, here we go soon!
Agreement at final stages with Stuttgart as #NUFC secret mission in Germany is ongoing, as
@CraigHope_DM
reports.Agreement done with the player and deal set to be sealed soon.
Finally, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has put a price on the deal, which is…steep:
🚨💥 EXCLUSIVE | Nick #Woltemade to Newcastle – DONE DEAL!
Full agreement with Stuttgart: €85 million fixed fee plus €5 million in add-ons. #NUFC
The player is on his way and has already said goodbye to the squad.
BFW Analysis
There was reason to be skeptical of this report as it would have come as a complete shock to nearly everyone who has been following the Woltemade saga, but this really seems to be a blow to Bayern Munich’s future plans for the striker position. Romano’s backing up the report brought a stark reality to the proceedings.
Despite the natural doubt, however, there have been rumors floating in recent days that VfB Stuttgart would be willing to part ways with Woltemade for the right prices — and also that Woltemade would now be open to considering a move abroad.
It seems like Bayern Munich could have really missed out on their man.
