Newcastle United might not watch Tino Livramento don their black and white stripes once again.
The Magpies won’t have Livramento for their upcoming trip to Arsenal as facing a setback after being forced off during the Bournemouth defeat with a thigh problem, according to The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
Livramento will require a second scan to determine the full extent of the injury, with concerns growing over whether he will feature again this season.
With such a cloudy situation, the best-case scenario
points toward a possible return in the final matches of the season, or not at all.
If the latter is the case, and although his recovery is still expected to be completed before England’s World Cup preparations begin in June, he might have played his last game as a Magpie.
According to Football Insider, Manchester City is working hard to try and close a deal for the Newcastle defender as soon as possible, even more now that the Magpies are bound to whiff on clinching any sort of continental football.
“If they miss out on Europe, which looks inevitable now, you would think that they would maybe look to supplement the SCR position by selling a player,” Stefan Borson told Football Insider. “Then you look at who the candidates might be, and it’s got to be a player that’s going to bring in some book profits. They’re going to be caught slightly in that dilemma between an older player but one that’s critical.
“Then Livramento, of course, we know City would buy him tomorrow if a fee could be agreed. But what is the fee for Livramento that can work? Will City pay £70m? They might do, but there’s probably not any other buyer for Livramento at £70m in the world. That might mean that Tonali is a better bet, just because there’s more potential buyers.”
Forget about the latest Gordon-to-Bayern rumors. This could sadly be the blow to start it all.
