The Athletic | Chris Kirschner: (subscription required) Between the post-mortem press conferences on Thursday and Brian Cashman’s visit to WFAN yesterday, we’ve gotten some insight into the Yankees’ plans
as they look back on the 2025 season and ahead to the offseason. Judging from these comments, it seems that the team will look to prioritize bringing Cody Bellinger back, will aim to give Jasson Domínguez a chance to lock down the left field job (starting with some playing time in winter ball to give him reps in left and from the right side of the plate), and will give Spencer Jones a chance to play his way onto the Opening Day roster in the spring. Additionally, between firings and the managerial hiring circuit, it seems that more changes are coming to the Yankees’ coaching staff.
The Athletic | Jordy Fee-Platt: Speaking of Cashman, he responded to criticism from Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez while making an appearance on WFAN Sports Radio’s “Evan & Tiki.” In particular, he denied allegations that Jeter made that the front office, and not manager Aaron Boone, create the lineup and make the majority of in-game moves.
New York Post | Greg Joyce: For the third time in four seasons, the Yankees’ number one priority this winter will be an outfielder hitting free agency, as Cody Bellinger, acquired via trade from the Cubs last winter after Juan Soto walked, is expected to opt out of his contract. In his first year in pinstripes, Bellinger was a key reason the Yankees won 94 games, as his strong bat from the left side and elite defense across the outfield resulted in him putting together his strongest season since his MVP campaign with the Dodgers. Whether or not the team manages to hold onto him will shape the Yankees’ winter plans.
