First the details, then I’m going to rage (complain…pout…puh-tay-toe, puh-tah-toe) at Mother Nature and The Worldwide Leader. First, the changes.
Today’s tilt between the Huskers and the top-ranked Red Raiders, originally scheduled to be played today at 5pm on ESPN, has been moved up to 2:00pm CST and will be played on ESPN+ instead.
The threat of thunderstorms scheduled to begin rolling in shortly after the start of the originally scheduled time forced the move to the earlier slot and the expected
duration of the storms plus the fact this was the final day of the tourney left them no other choice.
There are two pieces of good news. 1) This was fairly easily done since the host Eddie C. Moore Complex is a multi-field venue. And 2) If you read the Huskers Softball Clearwater Invitational Preview on Wednesday – all previews published weekly right here at Corn Nation weekly for season’s beginning to end 😁🫡 – then you saw in bold and italic right under the weather forecast that something like this was very likely to happen.
No, no, there are no thanks necessary, I have your backs – always.
Now, quickly – the complaints.
Mother Nature – what the hell? Regular season softball games, let alone those involving the Huskers, happen on national networks about as often as Burt Bielema sees a 2-for-1 Beef-n-Cheddar special under that logo on the Arby’s sign and just drives on by muttering him to himself, “No sir, I promised myself a chicken Caesar salad for lunch today and, by gawd, that is what I am having”
I’m saying it’s rare and Miss Nature did us dirty.
And ESPN? Because we all deserved this, you could absolutely move this game up and bounce whatever the hell you’ve got going on at 2pm while everyone else is watching the Olympics. What is on, anyway?
Googling…Women’s hoops – 1:00pm Kansas St – Iowa and 3:00pm NC State – Notre Dame. Well that’s easy – put THEM on ESPN+. It’s just the ACC and the Big 12. And from 1:00 – 2:00, you can run the 2009 Holiday Bowl in 60 Minutes version when Suh and company put a 33-0 hurt Nick Foles and the Arizona Wildcats.
But will they listen to me? Of course not.
So it’s up to all of us to enjoy our Huskers hanging the first loss on the 11-0 Red Raiders. What was the old commercial blurb? It’s gonna happen, so you better watch.
Go Big Red.
