The No. 7 Texas Longhorns are still a work in progress.
Offensively, the Longhorns have struggled to get the offense going in their first two matchups, almost completely failing to launch against Ohio State and doing most of its scoring in one flurry against San Jose State. Texas has just two more non-conference matchups ahead of conference play to get it right, the next coming against the UTEP Miners on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, a team struggling to get going as well.
Scotty
Walden welcomed in former blue-chip quarterback recruit Malachi Nelson, who made unsuccessful stops at USC and Boise State before landing in El Paso and earning the starting job. His first start for the Miners ended with just 16 points in a loss to Utah State before trying to right the ship against UT-Martin. Now, they will face their first Power 4 defense of the season and will need to play their best game to weather the storm.
