What is the story about?
Hello
everyone and happy Halloween!
As we get the weekend started, here’s what you need to know from the baseball world.
In Mariners news…
- In case you missed it, the Mariners have reportedly hired CJ Gillman to be their new hitting coach (despite not having a manager yet).
- Michael Arroyo underwent an elbow scope procedure and is expected to return to action in April 2027.
- Ryan Blake provided an early look at the 2027 projections for the Mariners ahead of the coming offseason.
- Kate Preusser gave a helpful breakdown of important offseason dates to remember.
- Washington State University unveiled a new John Olerud statue at their baseball field. I think perhaps they could have captured his likeness a bit more favorably.

Around the league…
- The Astros have hired Cardinals assistant general manager Randy Flores to serve as their new GM.
- The Seibu Lions announced that they will post right-hander Kaima Taira to Major League Baseball.
- Several teams and players declined and exercised options for the 2027 season. Check out the full list here.
- The Diamondbacks are looking for controllable starting pitching this winter, which may or may not be tied to their ask for second baseman Ketel Marte.
- Matthew Gross at Over The Monster expressed frustration that we have to go into this offseason with such pessimism thanks to the looming lockout.
