Happy Tuesday everyone! I’m your new Tuesday Rumblings host.
The KC Star had nothing new to say about the Royals for this morning’s Rumblings. Neither did Anne Rogers at MLB mothership website.
Kevin O’Brien at Royals Keep wonders if the Royals and Starling Marte would be a good free agent match.
One free agent option that could make some sense is Starling Marte, who previously played for the New York Mets. Marte is an older player at 37. However, he has a career 35.9 fWAR in 1,530 games, and he was
a Kansas City trade target a season ago.
Caleb Moody at Kings of Kauffman thinks the Royals have a chance to get a leg up on the Tigers after they missed out on Bregman.
Jim Callis, Sam Dykstra, and Jonathan Mayo examine each team’s top international prospect and choose 18-year-old Venezuelan Kendry Chourio.
Royals: Kendry Chourio, RHP
One year after signing for $247,500, Chourio vaulted his way to becoming top pitching prospect from last year’s international class after climbing from the DSL to Single-A Columbia in his age-17 season.
Bradford Doolittle at ESPN has a midwinter stock report on each team.
Progress report: The Royals look strong in every facet of run prevention — rotation, bullpen, defense, the ability to attack all sorts of hitters. The offense is more middle of the pack with the same shortcoming (walk rate) the Royals have had for virtually their entire existence.
The Yankees may sweeten the pot for Cody Bellinger by adding opt-out(s).
Anthony Franco at MLBTR goes through Cleveland’s options to improve their middle infield.
The Rays made a trade for some guys. I love this trade for the Rays. Who’d they get? And who’d they give up?
The WNBA and and players union continue to negotiate a new CBA after their current one expired.
Former Rockhurst High School football star Nathan Scheelhaase is reportedly being interviewed for multiple NFL head coach vacancies.
The PGA is apparently allowing some LIV golfers to boomerang back in.
Real Madrid has parted ways with Xabi Alonso.
Patrick Mahomes imitator and Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola will transfer to Oregon as Dante Moore contemplates the meaning of life after getting smashed to pieces by Indiana. Moore will probably be a top pick in April’s draft should he choose to leave Oregon.
For an off topic thing, I don’t know if I’ll keep doing this but I feel like sharing. Hopefully I’ll have an off-topic section each week. In a bout of nostalgia, I rejoined a browser-based MMORPG I played back in middle/high school called Utopia. This is an old-school thing; there are no videos or graphics. It’s all text and math. There used to be hundreds of thousands of players…now there are like 1600. Since this game is intensely heavy on math, it has always appealed to my spreadsheet heart.
As a kid, with unreliable internet, it was difficult to play the game. Now, as an adult who has a computer job and has a phone, it’s easy to play all the time. I’m having a blast diving deeper into the game’s mechanics and understanding more about how deep the math is. I never realized it as a kid. Obviously. It’s fun to revisit things like this later in life and understand how much more complexity there is to a thing. It’s like re-discovering this thing all over again.
Your song of the day is Foo Fighters with In Your Honor.
