Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know as J.J. McCarthy is set to start Sunday against the Houston Texans.
The NFC East went winless. Again. Breaking down this dysfunctional division | The Athletic
Will the team you cover be a buyer before the deadline? Should they be? Carroll: The ultimate question this time of year, and the division-leading Giants will have a nicely timed bye week to evaluate their future. If they remain atop the NFC East, there’s a strong argument to be made to add pieces and try to take advantage of a weak division. But will that really
be useful in a season they’re operating with backup quarterbacks? The Giants only own six picks in the upcoming draft, so trading away draft assets, particularly premium picks, for short-term gains might be shortsighted. And while John Harbaugh has been aggressive in trying to plug the holes on this team, he values draft capital. There’s no doubt the Giants could use help along the defensive line and at running back — especially after they just released Najee Harris — but a blockbuster move still feels like it’d be a surprise. That said, it’s been a season full of those, so perhaps we’re in for a few more.
QB1 for Week 7 against the Houston Texans
CB Paulson Adebo designated for return; OL Josh Sills signed to active roster | Giants.com
Cornerback Paulson Adebo has been designated for return from injured reserve and practiced Wednesday in a limited capacity. Adebo was placed on injured reserve with a knee issue on Sept. 18 in the wake of the season-opening win against the Cowboys. Once a player is designated for return, the team has 21 days to add him to the active roster or place him on season-ending injured reserve.
Adebo’s return comes after Greg Newsome II suffered a concussion last week against the Saints. Newsome had been the only member of the secondary other than safety Jevón Holland to start all six games.

Harris described how motion changes the defensive picture before the snap. “Pre-snap motion, really what it does, it can exchange gaps,” Harris told reporters on Tuesday. “It can make it where linebackers have to move, DBs have to have communication, and that’s really the main thing that it does, is it forces communication between defense and it kind of shifts responsibilities.”
“I think sometimes just a little bit of the fits on just some of the stuff, cleaning up that type of thing,” Reader said. “We’ve let some quarterback runs kind of beat us in some places. And that’s always a little bit difficult, especially last week. In a rain game, it was a little bit hard but this week, let a couple quarterback runs beat us.”

10 fairytale trades ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline | PFF
RB Jonathan Taylor to the New York Giants. Of all the lucrative chips in Indianapolis, none would surpass Taylor. It is worth mentioning that Taylor has been less dynamic in 2026, with his 67.3 rushing grade sitting 16th out of 27 qualified backs and averaging just 2.79 yards after contact per attempt. John Harbaugh’s offense has not found sustainable production on the ground through six games. Indeed, the Giants are 25th in rushing EPA per play, and their running backs rank 30th in PFF rushing grade. The team’s backfield committee has not only not worked, but also remains volatile given the release of Najee Harris and effective benching of second-year rusher Cameron Skattebo.
Still just 27 and under contract through 2028, the Colts probably won’t be inclined to trade Taylor. Then again, for a franchise operating without a 2027 first-round pick, moving Taylor could be worth it to recoup necessary capital for a rebuild. Whether or not the Giants would buy this deadline given their quarterback situation is another complicating factor, but a player of Taylor’s ilk may give them an advantage in a lowly but tight NFC East.
Goodell defends Giants’ Tisch, 49ers’ York attending NFL’s fall meeting | ESPN.com
Tisch remains executive vice president and chairman of the board after he and his siblings transferred their stakes to their children earlier this year. Tisch’s name was mentioned more than 400 times in the Jeffrey Epstein files released in January by the U.S. Justice Department. Tisch said he knew Epstein but denied going to his island.
After pledging at the Super Bowl there would be a review of Tisch’s association with Epstein, Goodell said Wednesday, “Everything we’ve looked at, we understand and I think we’re comfortable with him participating as the Giants suggest…I think always we’ll look to see if there’s any new information. We’ll look at it, and we’ll evaluate that.”
