The Cleveland Browns lost what should have been a winnable game on Sunday to the New Orleans Saints.
The defeat was the fourth on the road for the Browns, and similar to the Week 5 tilt against the New York Jets, it was a game the Browns should have won.
But it wasn’t to be, because these are still the Browns until they prove otherwise, and Cleveland now sits at 5-4 on the season after losing their second consecutive game.
It was not all doom and gloom on the afternoon, however, as a trio of Cleveland’s
offensive playmakers made their mark on the game.
Denzel Boston had a team-high 98 receiving yards, including a 60-yard reception in the third quarter that would have been a walk-in touchdown if the pass had not been underthrown by quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The Browns had to settle for a 30-yard field goal by Andre Szmyt, and those four points would prove crucial in a one-point loss.
KC Concepcion finished with 85 receiving yards, which included a 64-yard catch-and-run touchdown on another underthrown pass as Concepcion darted through the New Orleans defense for the final 30 yards to the end zone.
Harold Fannin Jr. only had two targets all day, which makes sense since he had 154 receiving yards just last week, but he made the most of them by bullying his way into the end zone for a 39-yard touchdown near the end of overtime.
After today, Concepcion and Fannin are tied for the team lead in receptions with 37 apiece, while Boston is right behind them at 32.
And with a handful of games still to be played in Week 9, Boston (507 receiving yards) and Concepcion (437) are the top two rookie wide receivers in the NFL. On the Browns, Fannin sits between them with 453 receiving yards.
The Browns still do not have a quarterback, but there is no denying that they have a nice trio of playmakers ready and waiting for when the new guy arrives in 2027.
