
The Iowa Cubs activated right-hander Will Sanders from the injured list and sent left-hander Cole Reynolds back to High-A South Bend.

The Iowa Cubs were sour against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros), 8-4.
Will Sanders’ return from the injured list could have gone better, as he got the loss after getting knocked around for six runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings. Sanders did strike out five while walking just one.
Catcher Moisés Ballesteros hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was his
12th this year. Ballesteros was 2 for 3 with two walks.
Right fielder Kevin Alcántara was 2 for 5 with a double.
Left fielder Parker Chavers went 1 for 2 with two walks. He scored twice.
First baseman Jonathon Long singled in the fifth inning, extending his on-base streak to 35 games, which is a new Iowa Cubs record. Long went 1 for 5.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies dropped a doubleheader to the Montgomery Biscuits, 5-4 and 3-1.
Jaxon Wiggins made his first appearance since July 19 in game one, throwing three innings and not allowing a hit or a run. Wiggins walked two and struck out two.
Grant Kipp got hammered for five runs on three hits over three innings of relief. One of those hits was a three-run home run. Kipp walked three and struck out two.
Right fielder Carter Trice hit his first Double-A home run with a man on in the fifth inning. It was his 15th overall home run this year. Trice went 1 for 2 with a walk.
Second baseman Corey Joyce was 2 for 4.

Erian Rodriguez made his Knoxville debut in game two and pitched fairly well, but was a victim of non-support. Rodriguez threw five innings and allowed two runs on four hits—but really on two solo home runs. Rodriguez struck out six and walked two.
The Smokies had three hits in game two. DH Corey Joyce went 2 for 3.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs detasseled the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins), 4-2.
Great start today for Yenrri Rojas, who allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings. Rojas struck out six and walked just one.
Luis Rujano pitched the ninth inning and gave up a run on a two-out walk and a double, but then got the final out to pick up the save. Rujano struck out the other three batters he faced.
Left fielder Edgar Alvarez hit a solo home run in the third inning, his eighth on the year. Alvarez was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
First baseman Cameron Sisneros clubbed a two-run home run in the sixth. It was his fourth for South Bend and seventh overall. Sisneros went 1 for 3 with a walk.
Beloit scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and two more in the ninth to beat Wisconsin, so South Bend remains in first-place tie with Beloit with 12 games to play.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans outlasted the Charleston RiverDogs (Rays), 13-12 in 11 innings. The win reduces the Pelicans magic number to clinch a playoff spot to five with 12 games to play.
Starter Ronny Lopez allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings. Lopez walked one, hit one batter and did not strike anyone out.
Charlie Hurley gave up two runs in the top of the 11th, but got the win when the Pelicans came back and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. The final line on Hurley was two runs, one earned, on three hits over one inning. He walked one and struck out no one.
Second baseman Ty Southisene led off the bottom of the tenth with a game-tying RBI triple, but got stranded there to send the game to the 11th. It was his first career triple. Southisene went 3 for 5 with two walks and a stolen base. He scored two runs and had two RBI.
Center fielder Kane Kepley tied the game up in the bottom of the tenth with a two-out RBI single. Kepley went 3 for 5 with two walks and two steals. He scored three times and drove home two.
Third baseman Yahil Melendez walked in the 11th and went to third on Kepley’s two-out RBI single. He scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Melendez went 1 for 5 with a walk. He scored two runs and had one run batted in.
Right fielder Alexey Lumpuy was 3 for 6 with an RBI.
First baseman Matt Halbach went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI. He walked twice—once intentionally—and scored one run.
Shortstop Angel Cepeda was 3 for 6 with an RBI triple.
DH Justin Stransky went 2 for 5 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI. He scored once.
