For a third straight week, there is a different team atop the men’s Other Top 25 as Saint Louis gets the lead spot.
SLU is 9-1 this season and has won three straight. It defeated San Francisco 85-75 on Saturday. The Billikens also have wins at Bradley, over Grand Canyon and against Santa Clara on their resume. Their one loss came by a single point to Stanford.
Josh Schertz’s team comes in at 29 in the NET, 39 in BartTovik and 41 in KenPom. It is 31st in adjusted defensive efficiency, per KenPom.
Utah
State, which received the other first-place vote, came in at No. 2. Saint Mary’s, which was in the top spot last week, dropped to third. The Gaels lost a 68-67 affair to Boise St. Sunday. That came one week after a win over Davidson.
Speaking of those Broncos, they began the year ranked fourth in the Other Top 25 preseason poll. A one-point loss to Hawaii Pacific led to a massive drop for Boise. However, the win over the Gaels marked a fourth straight win and improved their record to 8-3. Leon Rice’s team also has wins over Butler, Utah Valley and Wichita St.
The Broncos are back up to No. 13 this week after receiving votes a week ago. Their computer numbers remain strong. Boise St. sits 37th in Torvik (second highest mid-major behind SMC), 39th in the NET and 45th in KenPom.
Boise is one of four teams to join the ranking. UNC Wilmington came in tied at 17. Miami (OH) was 19, and Nevada tied for 23.
The Seahawks are 10-1 and winners of nine in a row. The one defeat came against Kent St. UNCW has beaten East Carolina, Navy, Marshall and Louisiana.
The Redhawks are a perfect 10-0. They are outscoring their opponents by an average of 24 points per game. Their 93.2 points per game ranks eighth in the country.
The Wolf Pack sit at 8-3 thanks to four straight wins. They have knocked off San Francisco, UC San Diego, Washington St. and Duquesne in this streak. Mountain West play begins with a flurry this Saturday as they host Boise St. and then visit Colorado St.
