Evan “Money Mac” McPherson is already off to a fantastic start this season, and the Cincinnati Bengals needed every bit of it in their 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In Sunday’s win, McPherson was 4/4 on field-goal attempts, and he even made some Bengals history in the process. According to the Fox broadcast, McPherson became the first kicker in franchise history to make two field goals of 55+ yards. Both of those came in the fourth quarter to help the Bengals hold onto the win.
His longest
field goal of the day, 58 yards, comes easy to him now, as he was kicking through the uprights from 62 yards pregame.
Offensively, there wasn’t much to talk about in this game besides a handful of mid-level passes and catches. If it wasn’t for the defense early in the game and McPherson making several clutch kicks, the national media would most likely be talking about another slow start by the Bengals.
There’s a reason McPherson was voted as a team captain for the second time. After another strong camp, he showed the team, once again, why he can be trusted in high-tension situations.
After the game, head coach Zac Taylor said this of McPherson:
“He’s the best kicker in the league.”
McPherson has definitely earned elite status with teammates and coaches as he continues to impress in these situations.
