The Buffalo Bills are set to debut in a new stadium at the start of the 2026 NFL season, while the Chicago Bears are currently taking major steps toward moving out of Illinois entirely for a new stadium. With all of these new stadiums and teams threatening to move out of state for new facilities, it begs the question of to what lengths the Steelers would go to for a new stadium?
On his show “The Snap Count,” former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch went as far as to say that conversations about the
future of the Steelers’ home are currently taking place.
“30 years is the expiration date. Guess what Acrisure Stadium is? 25 years. So I promise you, conversations are happening behind the scenes to figure out kind of what the next move is as the Rooneys are looking for an upgrade in their stadium.” Batch said. “Which, rightfully so, they’re keeping up with the norm that’s happening around the league from what truly happens over the next 5 years because North Shore was built out around Acrisure and PNC Stadium.”
The venue formerly known as Heinz Field has been the home of the Steelers since 2001. The stadium is currently the 16th-oldest stadium in the NFL. The venue is also home to major events, such as concerts, and has proven it can host large events, like the NFL Draft.
It’s hard to imagine that the Steelers would move out of the city for a new stadium. It seems like, as of right now, the Rooneys are at least having conversations about potentially upgrading Acrisure Stadium to try to preserve it as a capable NFL venue for years to come. Batch not only played for the organization for a numbers of years, but has also covered the team and is close with many inside the Steelers building, so him saying that the team is actively talking about upgrades is huge.
For right now, it seems as if the future of the Steelers staying in Pittsburgh is safe, but don’t be shocked to hear a potential announcement in the coming years about major upgrades coming to the Steelers home.
