After finishing third in Group D following their win over Israel, Slovenia will face Italy in the Round of 16. The winner of that game will face the winner of Germany and Portugal.
The game is slated for Sunday, Sep. 7 at 8 a.m. PT.
The final day of action in Group D saw plenty of shake up. With the loss, Israel dropped down to fourth in the standings
and will play Greece and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Ironically, if they had beaten Slovenia, they would have topped the group with Poland losing to Belgium and would have had a game against Georgia instead.
Circling back to Slovenia, though, they will face an Italian team that went 4-1 in group play. Their lone loss came to Greece in their opening game of Group C.
The Italians are led by Miami Heat guard Simone Fontecchio, who is averaging 15.6 points per game while shooting 37.9% from the 3-point line. Mouhamet Diouf is the only other player to average double figures on the team in group play at 10.2 points per contest.
Saliou Niang is just below that double-digit mark at 9.8 points per game in just 16.3 minutes per contest. Danilo Gallinari, yes that Danilo Gallinari, is also on the roster, averaging 10.4 minutes per game. He last played in the NBA in 2024 before retiring to the Puerto Rican league where he won a title.
All Round of 16 games will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
