A new chapter for the AEW World Championship began when Samoa Joe snatched the gold from Hangman Page at Full Gear. As new champ, the target is on Joe’s back, and the world title picture is starting to
take shape.
First up will be Eddie Kingston at the Winter is Coming special Dynamite on December 10. Kingston delivered his final words on Collision prior to the world title bout. Joe’s trash talk won’t get in Kingston’s head, because he is in his own head every day. Kingston cares too much about AEW and professional wrestling. AEW was supposed to be about rewarded for being the best. Now, he sees Joe at the top by being a snake. Kingston will have his opportunity to show the younger generation how to do it the right way.
Kingston fans will enjoy this promo.
As much as some fans want Kingston to win, let’s be real. Joe’s story is just starting. It’s far too early to strap Kingston over Joe. This matchup should deliver an entertaining TV bout that I’m certainly excited for. Once Joe retains, the question becomes who is next?
Swerve Strickland would like to have a word.
Swerve cut a promo on Collision. While out from injury, Swerve built the biggest, baddest, most dangerous version of himself with one purpose in mind. The AEW World Championship. Swerve was the man who ended Joe’s first reign, and he will do it again. Swerve understands that circumstances have changed, and he’ll have to go through the Opps first. That’s why Swerve offered to ride with Hangman for one night only against Will Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata. Swerve’s next line was the most intriguing. After that tag team bout, he needs to sit down with Hangman for a very serious conversation.
Josh Alexander interrupted to throw his name into the mix. This is Don Callis’ house now. Swerve doesn’t get to jump the line. Alexander believes that he should get the next world title shot, so he proposed they settle it in the ring one-on-one. Swerve was game for next week. The scene closed with Shibata sending a message by clipping Swerve in the knee from behind.
To recap Winter is Coming matchmaking, Swerve & Hangman will wrestle Hobbs & Shibata in a tornado tag team match on Dynamite, then Swerve will wrestle Alexander on Collision. That singles bout is not an official #1 contender match.
The Worlds End PPV is on December 27, and the world champion will need a challenger. Hangman has case for a rematch with Joe. Swerve and Alexander will battle for position. Hangman and Swerve need to come to an arrangement or else they’ll be back at each other’s throats over AEW’s top prize. If Kingston gets screwed, he might still be in the running. Don’t forget that MJF has a title shot to cash in, and his world championship run ended at the hands of Joe.
That’s where the world title picture currently stands.
