Triple-A: Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays) 7, Norfolk Tides 4
The Heston Kjerstad hype train is back on the tracks. Kjerstad walked twice and smacked a two-run home run in Norfolk’s 7-4 loss. Enrique Bradfield Jr. finished 1-for-4 and was caught stealing. Sam Huff went 0-for-2, Rece Hinds worked a walk and scored, and Creed Willems reached base twice.
Trey Gibson turned in a respectable start with two runs allowed over 5.2 innings. Gibson allowed six hits, struck out four, and walked one. The bullpen surrendered five runs but only two were earned. Dietrich Enns
recorded a pair of outs without allowing a run.
Double-A: Harrisburg Senators (Nationals) 3, Chesapeake Baysox 2
Joseph Dzierwa was tremendous last night. Dzierwa tossed six scoreless innings with four hits, nine strikeouts and zero walks. The 22-year-old continued to make his case for a promotion to Triple-A, and I think the hitters in the Eastern League would happily cosign a bump to Norfolk.
Chesapeake led by two until Ryan Long coughed up three runs in the ninth. Richard Guasch tossed two shutout innings before Long blew the save.
Anderson De Los Santos put the Baysox in a position to win the game with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. Wehiwa Aloy walked and scored a run. Aron Estrada and Thomas Sosa both finished 1-for-4. Griff O’Ferrall walked and singled.
High-A: Frederick Keys Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Phillies)
Former Sox prospect Enddy Azocar stayed hot with a double and a triple in four at bats. Yasmil Bucce finished 2-for-4, and Leandro Arias added a triple of his own. Frederick scored in six of the nine innings.
Jersey Shore briefly claimed the lead with a four-run fifth, but the Keys scored five unanswered heading into the bottom of the ninth. Chandler Marsh gave up a solo shot but still secured the save. Stephen Still tossed 4.2 innings of three-run ball, and Ryan Cabarcas received credit for the win in relief.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 18, Fredericksburg Nationals 7
Delmarva erupted for 18 runs in this one. The Shorebirds actually failed to score in the first three innings before posting a six spot in the fourth and sixth innings. They tacked on four runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth for good measure.
Somehow, the Shorebirds posted the high score without recording an extra-bases hit. The team walked 20 (20!) times. Newcomer Jhomnardo Reyes finished 1-for-2 with five free passes. Jaiden Lo Re finished 1-for-3 with four walks, and DJ Layton added a single to his three bases on balls. Jordan Sanchez recorded the only multi-hit game. The 20-year-old finished 3-for-4 with a pair of walks and three RBIs.
KK Clark started and allowed one run over four innings. Clark limited Fredericksburg to two hits and two walks. Fittingly, he struck out two.
