The Detroit Lions (4-2) and Minnesota Vikings (6-0) have declared their injury designations ahead of their Week 8 matchup at Ford Field, and as most expected, Lions All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph has been ruled out because he isn’t quite ready for game action. Additionally, Lions’ starting corner Roger McCreary was added to the injury report on Friday and is listed as questionable.
Let’s take a look at Friday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know.
Note: Any changes from the most recent
injury report will be bolded.
Ruled OUT
- S Kerby Joseph (Knee, PUP) — Days remaining in injury evaluation clock: 18
Joseph returned to practice on Wednesday and has slowly been acclimating back to football activities, sticking to individual and group drills over the first few practices.
“He’s done a good job,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said at his Friday press conference. “It’s good so far. Now there again, we haven’t taken any team reps. It’s all been individual and group. But he’s handled that well. That was kind of the point. We just progress him slowly here, work him in. We get him a little bit more today of that type of work. Plus, we surplus after the fact. We still do some rehabilitation, get him some of those miles that he’s not getting right now that he normally gets; the running, the volume. And then next week we’ll have him in real practice. So he’ll do the (individual drills) and all that. That’ll be the plan.”
While Joseph was not present during the portion of Friday’s practice made available to the media, Detroit News’ Nolan Bianchi later clarified that Joseph was initially working in another area and joined his teammates later in practice.
It’s also worth noting that Joseph was spotted wearing a compression sleeve on his knee, but Campbell noted those are often used to prevent or minimize swelling and reminded folks that Joseph is still in the “infant stages” of this acclimation process.
Questionable
- CB Roger McCreary (foot) — added to the injury report on Friday
McCreary was added to the injury report on Friday, and it’s unclear when his injury occurred. With so little information, we will have to wait for the team to announce any further updates between this report and game time. If McCreary can’t play, look for Ennis Rakestraw to get the start at outside corner.
Not listed with an injury designation
- RB Jahmyr Gibbs (shoulder)
- RB Jacob Saylors (neck)
- WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle)
- OT Penei Sewell (rest)
- DT Alim McNeill (rest)
- DT Tyleik Williams (illness)
- EDGE Aidan Hutchinson (rest)
- EDGE DJ Wonnum (rest)
- CB Ennis Rakestraw (ankle)
All players in this section were limited or did not practice earlier in the week but returned to full practices Thursday and Friday—save Rakestraw—and do not require an injury designation for Sunday’s game. They’re good to go.
Rakestraw was limited most of the week, but it looks like he will play this weekend. He’s become an integral part of the Lions defensive back rotation, operating as CB3 and taking on starting outside corner responsibilities the majority of the time the Lions are in subpackage sets.
Vikings’ injury designations

- Safety/NB Jay Ward (knee) — added to the injury report on Friday
Not listed with an injury designation
- RB Aaron Jones (knee)
- TE Gavin Bartholomew (ankle)
- LG Joe Huber (knee)
- RT Brian O’Neill (knee)
