Charlotte Knights 12, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 5 (Statcast box) Well worse than .500, the Knights (61-75) showed they still have enough pop in their bats to put on an impressive show against the Jumbo Shrimp (80-56). New faces from Birmingham played a heavy role in the offensive fireworks, as Mario Camilletti and Caden Connor strung together six hits, four runs, two RBIs and two walks to help fuel half of the team’s runs. Andre Lipcius added a home run, his 18th of the year. On the bump, the night went
almost as expected. Owen White put together three solid innings, giving up just two hits and a run before handing the ball to a shaky bullpen. While the relievers didn’t blow the game, they sure didn’t shut out Jacksonville. But hey, what’s new?

Birmingham Barons 11, Chattanooga Lookouts 8
The Barons (77-53) evened the series against the Lookouts (68-58) in a win that shouldn’t have ended as close as it did. Rough outings from Hagen Smith and Drew Dalquist put the Barons in a tight contest. Smith gave up three runs and a home run in four innings before handing the ball to Dalquist, who stumbled through 1 2/3 innings while relenting four runs. Fortunately, Bham favorite William Bergolla helped make up the difference by contributing five RBIs in four at-bats. DJ Gladney and Calvin Harris, who are starting September off hot, each contributed a pair of RBIs and four runs, too. By keeping their left on base number to just seven and consistently putting the ball in play, the Barons added to their runaway division lead.

Greenville Drive 7, Winston-Salem Dash 5 (10 innings)
Although the Dash (54-73) are determined not to finish the season last in their division, they have no one to blame but themselves for this extra-innings loss against the Drive (65-64). Winston-Salem maintained a healthy 4-1 lead heading into the ninth, with Samuel Zavala, Ryan Burrowes, and Lyle Miller-Green each recording multiple hits and carrying the offense, but Phil Fox couldn’t close the game. While the rest of the pitching staff combined for five hits, one run, and 10 strikeouts in eight innings, Fox allowed Greenville to tie the contest by tallying three runs at its last possible chance. Morris Austin, who hasn’t converted on a save opportunity since early August, blew the game in the 10th inning by allowing three more runs, one of which came from a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 8, Augusta GreenJackets 1
Kanny (63-67) continues its crawl towards .500 after a blowout win against Augusta (66-61). The Ballers smacked 11 hits, drew six walks, and bagged six extra bases, but surprisingly fell short of even more scoring opportunities, as the gang left 12 on base and went 5-for-18 with runners in scoring position. While there was plenty of offensive production to go around, the real stars of the show were Kevin Davis and Marco Barrios, who each pitched three hitless innings and combined to strike out 11 while walking three in six frames. While his consistency has wavered for the better part of the season, Davis extended his shutout streak to five games. Barrios, on the other hand, earned his first Kanny save.
