Manor Solomon has gotten a little bit of attention over Tottenham’s first two friendly matches of the preseason, earning some minutes against both MK Dons and Auckland FC, and raising questions as to whether he might actually be in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans. Solomon undoubtedly got those minutes because a number of Spurs’ wingers are either injured or simply not on the tour this week.
But to hear Manor’s agent tell it, Solomon has no interest in staying at Spurs this season, and is looking for a permanent
exit. In an interview with Israel’s Sport 5 (as reported by SportWitness), Solomon’s agent Ronen Katzav says Manor’s participation in preseason doesn’t really mean anything and that he’s hoping to secure a permanent move away.
“He needs to be given a training camp as a Tottenham player right now. The fact that he’s starting in friendlies doesn’t mean anything, a coach can start with a second or third, string lineup and then mix things up; it doesn’t mean a thing.
“Next season? I don’t like to speculate. We have over a month left in the transfer window. What I will say is that the goal will be a permanent transfer, not a loan. Statistically speaking, the last week of the window is the busiest.
“He wants to be dominant and make an impact, and that probably won’t happen at Tottenham. It doesn’t seem like the right place for him, and they’ve given up on him too easily along the way. The real goal is to find a place where he can play regularly. Manor is a very high-quality player, both mentally and professionally.
I won’t mention any specific team by name, that wouldn’t be appropriate. The goal is to remain in one of the top five leagues, without a doubt.”
Well, that’s pretty definitive. Manor’s tenure at Spurs can be expressed pretty succinctly by the phrase “failure to launch” — poached for free from a Shakhtar Donetsk team that was dealing with the war in Ukraine, Solomon picked up an injury soon after joining the club under Ange Postecoglou, and then never really got another look. He was sent on loan to Leeds United in 2024-25, and then again to Villarreal and Fiorentina last season. It’s pretty clear that Spurs don’t really see a future for Solomon and the feeling is, apparently, mutual. Katzav is also right — preseason games are meaningless, and it’s pretty clear that Solomon is just making up the numbers and rounding into some semblance of fitness this summer. It’s probably best for everyone if he just leaves.
From what we’ve seen him, Solomon profiles either as a rotation option on a bottom half Premier League team, or a dude that bosses it in the Championship. Heading to England’s second division doesn’t seem like something he’s particularly interested in, so I wouldn’t be shocked if Spurs find him a nice cozy Ligue 1 or Serie A club for a few million quid before the window closes.
