Good morning, Canes.
Let’s start the day the right way.
Miami beats Florida State, again, 28-22

Don’t let the score fool you, Miami dominated Florida State in Tallahassee on Saturday night. This isn’t indicative of the game that was played. It
should have been Miami 40-something to FSU 6 or maybe 10. Trust me on this.

Miami is now 5-0 (1-0 in ACC) on the year. The schedule continues next week with a bye week. No, that’s not a typo. Miami’s 2nd bye in 3 weeks is here. On the bright side, there are no more bye weeks. On the dark side, the ACC screwed us over, and we have to run the final 7 games straight with no break….even when the calendar has an extra week for a bye somewhere in October or November.
Also, Rueben Bain’s tour of World Destruction continued last night
In any event, FSU’s hot start is over, and the Canes keep winning. That’ll work for me!
ACC race heating up?
Final: #24 Virginia 30, Louisville 27 (overtime) — Virginia followed up their big upset of Florida State with a hard fought, come from behind overtime win on the road at Louisville. The Cavaliers are now 3-0 in conference. Interesting….
Final: Duke 45, Cal 21 — Oh look, Manny Diaz (remember him?) has the Blue Devils at 3-0 in the ACC, same as Virginia. Duke went down 21-3 early, but stormed back to beat the brakes off the homestanding Golden Bears.
While they were on a bye, Georgia Tech is ALSO undefeated in conference. And, since Miami, Virginia, and Georgia Tech do not play each other, there’s a chance that the ACC could have 3 teams go undefeated in conference. It’s still VERY EARLY, but this is something worth watching. And for those wondering, Duke plays Georgia Tech AND Virginia so they’re not part of this 3-way-tie conversation. However, if they win both of those games, they could hypothetically push for a potential tie up top with Miami (if Miami won out). Just things to think about.
Elsewhere….
Final: Florida 29, #9 Texas 21 — The inept Gators looked very apt, racing out to a lead and beating Texas soundly on Saturday afternoon. I don’t expect many more W’s from the Gators on the year, but every one they get makes Miami’s win over them look even better. And this win makes Ohio State’s best win look a bit worse, so…..
Miami Hurricanes pushing for the #1 ranking?
I’m not saying it, many others in the CFB world are. With a trio of ranked wins at the time of the game — #6 Notre Dame, #18 South Florida, and #18 Florida State — Miami has more top tier wins to their credit than any other team in America. And, as I said above, even the win over Florida looks a bit better than it did 2 days ago, so that helps things too.
