Kentucky basketball fans got their first official greeting from Andrija Jelavic on Monday, as the Croatian forward posted a welcome message to Big Blue Nation through the program’s social media.
In a video shared on Twitter, Jelavic introduced himself from Lexington after officially arriving on campus.
“Hello, BBN. I’m Andrija Jelavic. I’m here on campus. I’m excited to get to work, to meet you all, and I’m excited to get a number 9,” Jelavic said with a smile.
The 6-foot-9 forward’s arrival has been highly anticipated as head coach Mark Pope continues to build his first roster at Kentucky. Jelavic landed in the United States on Saturday and was quickly spotted courtside with Pope at a professional tennis match in Cincinnati, signaling that his transition to the program was underway.
Jelavic is expected to bring versatility to the Wildcats’ frontcourt, blending size and skill with international experience. His commitment marked a significant recruiting win for Pope, who has emphasized both player development and global scouting in his first offseason at Kentucky.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Jelavic’s arrival, and Monday’s post confirmed he is officially in Lexington, ready to begin workouts and integrate with his teammates.
With fall practices about to begin and the season approaching, Jelavic’s presence adds another piece to Kentucky’s retooled roster as the Wildcats aim to make noise in Pope’s first year at the helm.
