Former France midfielder Florent Malouda thinks that Bayern Munich star Michael Olise will return to the Premier League relatively soon.
Malouda has known Olise since he was a young boy and believes the winger will have many options if he considers such a move.
“I’m totally impressed by Michael Olise. His brother happened to play with my son. They were playing in a grassroots academy, so I happened to meet him and his family. He was passionate about football. And of course, at the time he loved Chelsea.
But I’m very impressed with what he did, the choices that he makes, and how he handled the pressure while still enjoying football. When I watch him playing, he enjoys football and he plays football for the right reasons,” Malounda told Snabbare. “I was very happy when he chose to play for France, for the Olympics, of course, and for the full national team. I can see that he has ambition. I think he will still develop. The more he plays at this level, the more comfortable he is. I’m not sure how long he will stay at Bayern Munich, but I’m sure he will be back in the Premier League soon.”
If Malouda had his choice, Olise would jump to Chelsea, but also think Olise going to Real Madrid would be a good fit in the future.
“If I had the power to influence Michael Olise he would be my dream signing for Chelsea, I would do it, but it will depend on the status of the club. For example, whether they play in the Champions League, this will affect his choice because he cannot go backwards. He has progressed from Crystal Palace to doing well at the biggest stage with Bayern Munich. He has to be winning titles,” said Malounda. “I think Real Madrid, for example, have to prepare for the future. We could see how they struggled in midfield in terms of transition after Toni Kroos and Luka Modric left. They had a situation when Kylian Mbappé arrived, with players like Rodrygo to handle, and a player like Olise, of course, has a good connection with Mbappé, so that would be a big threat.
“But I don’t think this is what Madrid is looking for now. They are focused more on stability in midfield, before they had more quality upfront. But of course, for him as a player who is, I think, brilliant, to play for Real Madrid will be a great achievement for Olise one day.”
One destination that Malouda does not think would work for Olise is Liverprool. Despite the need for a Mo Salah successor, Malouda says LFC needs to promote from within.
“Michael Olise to replace Mohamed Salah? He is happy at Bayern. I think they also have talent to develop. They have Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, they can find a solution internally. They need to work with the players they have before bringing more players because it might lead to more issues. You bring good players, and when they arrive in the environment, they’re not performing,” said Malouda, “I think that’s the question Liverpool need to address before bringing top talent.”
The reality is that Bayern Munich is seeking to lock down Olise for even long than his current 2029 contract — and rightfully so. It will get hard each year as Olise’s stature within the game continues to grow. Eventually, someone s going to make a wild offer to both Olise and Bayern Munich.
That time, however, still seems like it is far off and Bayern Munich fans can continue to watch Olise’s incredible production for at least a few more years before talk of transfer is relevant.
