Konrad Laimer’s contract situation at Bayern Munich has been looming for a while now, but despite conflicting reports, both player and club appear to be in calm waters at the moment.
Previously it had been reported that the Bavarians were ready to let the Austrian international walk, despite his key role this season as Vincent Kompany’s right-back (and occasionally left-back) of choice. That was followed by news that an agreement was near and that early reports of extravagant contract demands were off
the mark.
After Bayern’s weekend Bundesliga win over VfL Wolfsburg, the club’s executive board member for sport, Max Eberl, set the record straight as to where things stand.
“There are two positions that don’t align at the moment. We want to extend Konny’s contract, that’s a fact. Now we somehow have to find a way to bridge the gap. There’s absolutely no bad blood,” Eberl confirmed in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia.
Looks like there is still a ways to go — but signs point to a happy ending.
