There is really no reason for Jakobi Meyers to play another game for the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders should work on dealing the unhappy wide receiver between the rest of the bye week and before they start practicing next Wednesday to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 2. The NFL trade deadline is two days later.
There is no reason for the Raiders to wait until the deadline to deal Meyers and risk him getting injured, ending any chance to make a deal.
He already missed Week 7 at Kansas City
with knee and toe injuries. He is expected to be healthy enough to face the Jaguars.
But what’s the point?
He doesn’t want to be a Raider anymore and the 2-5 Raiders aren’t going anywhere this season. They might as well get something for Meyers now
This week, Meyers stood by his season-long stance of wanting to be traded when he met with reporters. Asked if his trade request still stood, he said “Oh, for sure.”
Like he always has maintained, Meyers said he will be a professional and play even if he’s not traded. He’s done right by the Raiders and he hasn’t been a distraction.
He also was noncommittal when asked if he wants a contract extension to remain with the Raiders. That was his desire before the season and when it didn’t happen (and other teammates got extensions from the new regime) Meyers asked out.
It is clear he will very likely walk in free agency after the season if he isn’t traded. The Raiders will likely get a mid-round comp pick in 2027 if that happens. The should just trade him now and get some draft compensation in 2026 so they can help package it to get in strong position to draft a quarterback.
The writing is on the wall — Meyers is out the door at some point. There’s no reason why it should be later rather than sooner.
