There’s little value in looking ahead. But that’s not going to stop the effort of doing so anyway.
The first round of CFP Rankings came out on Tuesday night, slotting Georgia second. That puts the Bulldogs in a very good position should they take care of what they need to over the next month and then some. With all of that said, putting a lot of stock in the first round of these rankings is like investing energy in early-voting totals – much is to be hammered out by the it matters.
Because a friendly
reminder – there was a time in 2022 when Tennessee led the CFP Rankings…and their prospects were never heard from again by that season’s conclusion.
So how does all of this tie in?
It’s all about where Georgia’s quarterfinal-round destination could be. With Miami currently being No. 1, it’d get the first choice of a venue, and it would be hard for the Hurricanes to turn down the Chick-fil-A Bowl in terms of travel. If Georgia ends the season ranked second, you can bet Kirby Smart from a travel angle would want the next closest venue of the Cotton Bowl. That new venue could be fun except for the Bulldogs playing the current projected winner of Texas and Ole Miss – and playing the Longhorns in Dallas would be anything but a home-field advantage. It’d be akin to Florida in Jacksonville.
Clearly, lots will shake out between now and then, but as it stands now, there’s a projected postseason road for Georgia that it would need to avoid.
It was very clear as the Alabama game began how badly Nate Frazier wanted to play against Alabama. The running back detailed more on Tuesday how tough it was to sit out those handful of games.
The Red & Black takes a nice retrospective on Gunner Stockton’s play against Floridaafter a rough outing against Auburn. Not surprisingly, Kirby Smart remains bullish when it comes to the Bulldogs’ signal-caller.
It’s hard to tell due to some of the angst hanging around, but Georgia’s offensive leads in the SEC in points per game and passing efficiency. That said, there were plenty of chances of tack on yards and points left on the field against Florida, and that’s heavy on the mind for the Bulldogs going toward Ole Miss. Here’s some insight into how offensive coordinator Mike Bobo plans to attack the Rebels on Saturday.
Basketball is underway for both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs. These early games are glorified scrimmages, in all honesty, but it’ll be good to see what kind of product each team is putting together.
For the Lady Bulldogs, this week was also the debut for new head coach Ayla Guzzardo.
