As the Seattle Seahawks prepare for a pivotal NFC West contest with the Arizona Cardinals, they’ll face a boatload of injuries, according to Wednesday’s estimated injury report.
The Seahawks had six players miss practice with injury, including quarterback Sam Darnold, left tackle Charles Cross and star defensive tackle Leonard Williams. “Big Cat” was held out with a stinger he suffered on Monday night against the Chicago Bears and would be a massive loss for the team, especially in the run game. Nose
tackle Brandon Pili also did not practice with a back injury, leaving Seattle thin at the position and facing a red-hot running back in Tyler Allgeier.
With Darnold out, Seahawks Mike Macdonald indicated that backup Drew Lock would start in his place. Lock has been battling an elbow injury for the last three weeks, was inactive in their last two games, and was once again limited in practice on Wednesday with a right elbow injury. If Lock can’t go, second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe would need to step in to make his first NFL start, which would be as entertaining as it would be stressful.
Sticking with the offense, newly acquired star guard Quenton Nelson was limited by a knee injury, as was backup Anthony Bradford. With Josh Jones poised to start another week at left tackle, more offensive line injuries have to be the last thing Seahawks fans want to see.
While wide receiver Rashid Shaheed was held out of practice and appears on track to miss his second straight game, his backup Tory Horton was a full go with a hand injury. Take the good news where you can get it!
The report proves to be a mixed bag for the Seahawks defense as well. Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who missed last week, was limited with an ankle injury, and Nick Emmanwori was a full participant with a shoulder injury. Those two returning to form in the lineup would be a massive boost for the “Dark Side” defense that is reeling from giving up 34 points on Monday.
As for the Cardinals, breakout wide receiver Michael Wilson was limited in practice by rest and a rib injury, which could give him a chance to play on Sunday. Wilson broke two ribs and put up 111 yards and a touchdown on eight catches in Arizona’s win over the Dallas Cowboys last week. Defensive tackle Walter Nolen was also limited with an ankle injury.
Arizona will likely be without running back Bam Knight, who would back up Allgeier, as he did not practice on Wednesday due to a concussion. The Cardinals held stars Budda Baker and Josh Sweat out of practice, but it was not injury-related.
Humorously, the Cardinals held quarterback Jacoby Brissett out with “rest,” which apparently means getting shipped off to the Baltimore Ravens.
