The Denver Broncos drafted Texas A&M defensive tackle Tyler Onyedim in the early third round after trading out of the second round. Immediately after the pick, we asked Broncos’ fans what they thought of the pick and most picked A-B, but those grades did not quite reach a combined 50%.
Looking at SB Nation, they graded every pick from Day 2 and they were a little more optimistic than us fans giving Denver a solid B+ for the selection.
66. Denver Broncos — Tyler Onyedim, DT, Texas A&M
Interesting upside pick that will need time to develop. Onyedim
has length that can’t be taught, and knows how to use his wingspan to make plays. However, the arm tackling he got away with in college won’t work in the NFL, and right now he’s sub-300 pounds and would get bullied at the time of scrimmage. The Broncos have the time to develop him as a player, and I think they could even up with something special at a fairly low risk. — JD
Grade: B+
My initial reaction was on the meh side of things, because I was hoping for another trade back from that 66th spot. However, after seeing what kind of traits Onyedim could bring to an already stacked defensive line, I fell in love with the pick. This is one of those ‘build-for-future’ type picks and in a few years we’ll be happy Denver used that third round pick to get this kid.
After sleeping on it, how would you grade this pick?
