Newcastle United may have to part ways with striker William Osula in January, depending on the recovery timeline of fellow forward Yoane Wissa, who has yet to make his debut with the Magpies.
According
to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the 22-year-old could leave on loan if Eddie Howe’s attacking options return to full fitness in time for the winter window.
Osula has seen limited playing time this season, starting just twice across all competitions. The Denmark international hopeful is eager for more minutes to boost his 2026 World Cup chances, but his fate hinges on Wissa’s knee recovery and the form of Nick Woltemade, who has taken the starting role since arriving from Stuttgart.
“Right now Newcastle need him because Yoane Wissa is out injured,” O’Rourke said. “A lot will depend on the fitness of Wissa and what Newcastle decide to do with Willy Osula if Wissa comes back fit. If all those three players — Wissa, Woltemade and Anthony Gordon — are fit and available around January, then maybe Newcastle could consider letting the player leave.”
Osula has remained professional despite his limited role.
“He’s got his head down and is contributing to the team,” O’Rourke said. “But there’s no doubt that the interest from Eintracht Frankfurt is still there and I think there’ll be other clubs who will also be looking at Osula in January.”
One thing is obvious, and that’s Newcastle will only sanction a loan move if their forward depth is secure by either adding another man to replace Osula, or if Wissa and Woltemade prove to be made of steel from the former’s return moment and going forward.
