We’re now just days away from the opening of the Green Bay Packers’ 2026 training camp. It has been a long offseason, but the pads will finally go on next week, with the team’s first practice set for next Wednesday, July 29.
Over the following five weeks or so, the Packers will need to settle on a roster, but also on the final roles across their offensive and defensive lines. Those two units both face significant questions this summer, but the questions are very different depending on which side of the football
you’re on.
Defensively, it’s all about determining a hierarchy on the edge and a plan for how to line up on the interior. With Micah Parsons likely to miss at least the first four games of the regular season for his ACL rehab, the need to assemble a passable pass rush is critical. Lukas Van Ness will lead that charge, but who will step up behind him? Rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton should have plenty of opportunities in camp to show that he deserves snaps early on as a rookie — and that his draft weekend slide to the 4th round was indeed a mistake by much of the NFL. The interior line’s questions instead focus around who will play what position — namely nose tackle when the team lines up with a 3-man front.
On the offensive line, the questions are less about who plays where and more around whether the expected starters at several positions are ready for the big time. Only two spots on the line have the same likely starter as at the start of last season, with Aaron Banks at left guard and Zach Tom at right tackle. Otherwise, Jordan Morgan takes over at left tackle, Sean Rhyan has moved to center, and Anthony Belton likely gets the call at guard, rather than playing tackle as he did early last season.
Can that unit gel in training camp, stay healthy, and become a consistent reliable unit? The Packers certainly hope they can answer in the affirmative over the course of the 2026 season.

Given the Packers’ success in developing linemen over the years, it’s reasonable for fans to have a knee-jerk reaction to reject this analysis. Still, there are questions at multiple positions that need to be settled, with several players (including the aforementioned Morgan) lining up in different spots from where they played in much of 2025.
