Jules Kounde was back in the starting XI for Barcelona on Saturday night and enjoyed a memorable evening for the Catalan giants
in a 3-0 win over Getafe. The defender’s appearance put him into the record books at the Camp Nou as the Frenchman with the most appearances for the club. He’s now played more times for Barca than Eric Abidal, Ousmane Dembele and Clement Lenglet.
There was also a goal for the defender to celebrate as well. Kounde grabbed Barcelona’s third of the night after earlier fluffing a good opportunity to get on the scoresheet.
Still, he came off admitting he’s felling good and doing his best to force his way back into the XI on a regular basis.
“I feel good physically and mentally too. I’m working hard to get my position and my level back and help out. I feel good in every way,” he said.
Has to done enough to convince Flick? He was asked that very question and was happy to respond: “That’s a question for the manager. I’m working hard to improve and find my best form. I feel good, strong, and ready,” he stated.
“I’m happy to be on the pitch and help when it’s my turn. We played a solid game, which is what we wanted, and the victory was well-deserved.
“We’re focused, we never stop. We always want more, and that’s the atmosphere in the dressing room. We know we’re doing things well, but we have to keep going, because as soon as we slip up, another team can come along. We’re in good shape.”
Flick also had praise for Kounde afterwards, describing his defender as “100% professional” and a player who “always wants to improve.”
After a difficult start to the season, seeing the smile back on Kounde’s face was a welcome sight after a win which will have made the Frenchman feel a whole lot better about life at Barcelona.
