Barcelona have issued an official statement on Pedri’s injury and confirmed the midfielder is out of action for the foreseeable future.
Pedri is expected to miss around 4-5 weeks after suffering a problem
during El Clasico and Barca have offered up an official diagnosis:
“First team player Pedri has suffered a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh. The player’s recovery will dictate his return to action.”
It’s yet another injury for Barcelona’s medical team to deal with in a season that has seen key players such as Joan Garcia, Gavi, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Dani Olmo sidelined.
Pedri’s injury also comes as no great surprise. The midfielder has played virtually every minute for club and country without a rest.
His appearance in El Clasico mean that Pedri had featured in 72 of a possible 73 matches for Barca under Hansi Flick. It’s an exhausting record and one that, perhaps inevitably, will now end due to injury.
