Barcelona center-back Ronald Araujo is set to join Premier League giants Liverpool on a season-long loan deal in a massive surprise, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on the deal late on Friday.
The folks at Mundo Deportivo also confirmed the news an added a key
piece of information: Liverpool have added a buy option in the deal, allowing them to purchase Araujo on a permanent transfer next summer depending on his performance.
Liverpool lost Ibahima Konaté to Real Madrid on a free transfer and signed 21-year-old Jérémy Jacquet from Rennes as his replacement, but the young Frenchman has struggled with injuries in pre-season and new Reds manager Andoni Iraola felt another center-back signing was needed.
Araujo is the chosen one, and Barça sporting director Deco agreed to the deal on Friday night. There are no details yet on a possible loan fee or the terms of the buy option, but those will likely come to light in the coming days.
