NJ.com | Adam Zagoria: In case you were in a coma Friday night or decided to do an ayahuasca retreat or were for some other reason not watching the Dodgers game, Shohei Ohtani went nuts. Three montstrous home runs and 10 strikeouts over six innings. It’s inarguably on the short list for the greatest single-game playoff performance in MLB history. Former Yankee Reggie Jackson, who knows a thing or two about it, chimed in.
“I say wow! and CONGRATULATIONS Shohei! for an incredible performance.! A tip
of the cap and a bow to your performances tonight Reggie Jackson Mr October,” Jackson posted to Twitter.
SNY | Phillip Martinez: The Yankees have a plethora of decisions to make this offseason. One of them is whether to keep their second-most prolific home run hitter from 2025. Trent Grisham, fresh off a career year, is headed to free agency. Among the reasons to bring him back? Continuity in the outfield, he excelled in high-leverage situations in the regular season, and he hit 34 home runs. Reasons not to? When you look at the back of his baseball card, boy howdy does 2025 jump out as an outlier. Personally, I suspect we’ve seen the last of the headliner of the Trent Grisham Trade. But my track record this year is awful, so don’t believe me.
NJ.com | Randy Miller: The offseason hasn’t officially started yet but Miller has forecast what the 2026 Yankees would look like in a complete absence of moves: the lineup, the rotation, and the bullpen based on players under major and minor league control. Miller accounts for injuries, so no Carlos or Gerrit in the Opening Day rotation. Take a look. Decide where you’d invest Hal’s money if given your druthers. Get ready for so much King Tuck talk this hot stove season.
The Athletic | Chris Kirschner ($): A couple of interesting notes from Kirschner in his quick look at the state of the union. First, Aaron Boone clearly looks at Jasson Domínguez as a left fielder. So even if neither Trent Grisham nor Cody Bellinger return, it doesn’t look like The Martian will get moved to center. The club also apparently hopes El Marciano heads to play winter ball this offseason, getting reps in left field and hitting right-handed. As for Spencer Jones, the towering prospect has put himself on the Yankees’ radar and it sounds like he’ll be in consideration for a big league roster spot in 2026.
