The logistical issues surrounding the UFC’s big White House card on Sunday June 14th are starting to get Joe Rogan stressed out.
The longtime UFC color commentator will be on hand to call all the action on the South Lawn, even if he has a lot of concerns for how the outdoor setting will affect the quality of the fights.
“The White House thing is odd, I don’t like it,” Rogan said in a recent episode of his podcast. “I don’t like the idea of fighting outside at all. And then it’s June, and it’s DC, and we
looked it up the last time. Like last year, the same day was like 100 degrees. That’s hot as f–k. And then the lights [could bring bugs], and then they were talking about using fans. Is that enough? With bug strips everywhere? What are you gonna do? Like, how are you gonna stop the bugs?”
Rogan thinks its ridiculous to ask fighters to compete for a belt in such an unstable situation with so many potentially fight-altering elements.
“I just don’t think you should compete in a world championship fight in a non-controlled environment,” he said. “I think it should be inside an air-conditioned arena. It should be a controlled environment. Like you don’t ask someone to play a world championship basketball game outside in the sun. That would be crazy. Like you play in a f–king air-conditioned arena. That’s how it should be.”
This isn’t the first time Rogan has sounded a bit concerned about the Freedom Fights 250 card. Back in March, he suggested it wasn’t the safest time to be getting everyone together on the White House lawn.
“I know it’s going to be very high security and high stress and weird to have a fight at the White House in the middle of a f–king war,” he said. “I would hope the war will be sorted out by June, but quite honestly, I’m not confident that’s going to be the case. So that’ll be weird, having this very high profile event where everyone’s in one place at one time right there.”
With all the logistical challenges coming, we’re happy to stay at home and watch this event on television rather than deal with the gnats on the South Lawn or the crowds at the Ellipse in President’s Park. We’re sure Rogan will continue to be the Everyman and give us updates through the event on how sweaty and buggy it gets.
